Orangeville’s EcoTank Canada celebrates official launch with 7-Eleven

The goal of a more convenient, ecologically friendly way to fill up your windshield washer fluid is one step closer to sweeping the country as Orangeville-based business EcoTank Canada celebrates their official launch.

Their product went through a soft launch in the fall, with Orangeville’s 7-Eleven part of the initial run.

To celebrate the official launch, EcoTank Canada’s Jordon Francis and Robbie Mair met with local dignitaries and Tamim Waizi, a representative of 7-Eleven, marking the milestone.

“It’s exciting to see some local entrepreneurs introducing a business idea to the automotive market that helps our environment,” said Sandy Brown, mayor of Orangeville.

He noted that the system will help prevent the inevitable loss of fluid that occurs when pouring from the jug, keeping the chemical fluids from finding their way into groundwater, rivers and lakes.

“The easy-to-use filling station also removes the plastic washer jug from the equation — again saving millions of 4-litre plastic containers from ending up in a landfill,” Brown said. “Congratulations to the EcoTank team on their Canadian launch — and all the best as they grow this business across North America, creating jobs right here in Orangeville!”

Of the launch, Dufferin-Caledon MP Kyle Seeback said it’s been an incredible experience to witness EcoTank Canada’s forward motion with their eco-friendly technology.

“Their vision to start delivering this solution to Canadians was recently realized with the first location here in Orangeville at our local 7-Eleven,” he said. “Our community is proud to have this forward-thinking company in Dufferin-Caledon.”

If the program is successful, it could lead to the elimination of approximately 70 million plastic jugs from landfills each year, added Seeback.

Francis and Mair previously told the Orangeville Banner that the idea for the business came after a frustrating evening with a jug of windshield washer fluid, followed by a hot tub venting session. After discovering that a company in Europe was already developing the technology, they reached out to them to launch the product here.

The team’s goal is to keep the Canadian headquarters, and eventually manufacturing, based in Orangeville.

“EcoTank Canada would like to thank 7-Eleven Canada, our MP Kyle Seeback, the Mayor of Orangeville Sandy Brown and mostly the Town of Orangeville for their continued support to making our town a greener place,” the team said via email.
